Day 3 post op.
So no photo's today...just words.
I am finding recovery this time round so much easier; it's day 3 and I can fit shoes on my operated leg and there is hardly any swelling. I think this time round my right leg is stronger having already had the op and I am wearing very sexy compression stockings and actually doing my physio homework. I also have anti-inflammatory tabs to take and some nice pain killers. I am keeping up with the pain killers; not letting them run out so that I am on top of the pain at all times....hehehe!
Spending the day in bed or chair with your feet up is not as glam as it sounds; there is absolutely nothing to watch on day time TV...snooze fest and I would rather be able to walk around; not have to take 20 minutes to walk to the bathroom and back...it is rather frustrating.
There is a positive to all this; I am getting waited on hand and foot by my parents; loving it but missing my independence and my cats...
Tomorrow is my post op check up; hopefully I will be able to do more after I see the doc; thank goodness he doesn't charge for post op appointments.
Missing my kiddies!

Catch up
I figured that since I am going to be bed ridden for a few days I would use this as a good time to update my blog.
Since my last post I now have lost a total of 12.5 kgs or according to the hospital scale 12.7kgs. Hospital scales don't lie.
I went in yesterday to have my second knee op. I was born with my knee caps pointing outwards and the stress of all the weight plus physical activity has made it painful when I walk, run, skip etc...Last year I had my right knee done and yesterday my left. I must say that yesterdays op was by far much better than the first; I wasn't so out of it as I was before with regards to the anestethic. Had a but of pain with the drip site but after phoning the doctor they put me on oral pills.
Here is a pic of the scar on day 1:
I am not looking forward to the removal of those staples.....eeek.
I went to see my God-daughter on Youth day; 16 June. It was so nice to catch up. She is so big, nearly 17 months and so busy..we had a battle trying to get her to sit still so we could take a pic..here are a few of the photos:

The last pic is when she was rather tired and had a tube of hand cream to occupy herself with. I rubbed some cream on her hand and she rubbed some on her hair. Love this girl...

Crazy Daisy
I have been trying for weeks to get a video of my crazy cat chasing her tail and today was the day! I got two videos of Daisy chasing and playing with her tail.
The funny thing is she has a very short tail..shorter than a normal cat tail. What I figured is that she wasn't well nourished as a kitten and I know this from watching many a discovery programmes on human development that when there is limited nourishment the most important organs get the nourishment; like in humans if you have very faint or non existent fingerprints then you had limited nourishment in the womb.
So I have guessed that Daisy probably didn't have a good start and therefore the more important organs got the chance to grow and develop and Daisy's stupid tail was obviously not deemed as important and it is short lol.
So she has to do some awesome flicks and roli poli's to get to her tail..watch how she flicks it and at times seems freaked out about it...it is hilarious!

Measurements and weight loss
I have now been banting for about 10 weeks. Johnny, my trainer took my initial measurements on the 3 March. We took the second set of measurements on the 31 March and then another set today 29 April.
I have lost a total of 8.5 kgs in 9 weeks...super exciting and the best part is that people are starting to notice! I bumped into people that I havent seen in months and they both said I was looking good...really boosts my confidence.
The only thing I did was cut out all carbs, bread, pasta, sugar etc and start eating high fat. It has really worked and I feel amazing!

Riley the hunter
As I said before in my previous posts; my cats are definitely hunters...well lets's not get ahead of ourselves when we say hunters.
When I think of the word hunter; I think of a lion stalking a gazelle....
I have limited my cats abilities to hunt properly as I have proudly donned them with expensive cat collars that have a very essential accessory...the humble bell. I find it very important to have said bell; because not only does it limit their prey it also enables me to hear them...very useful when I am worried about their where-abouts and yell RILEY or DAISY at the top of my lungs..normally around 6am on a weekday...sorry neighbours (naaat) ...my neighbours are another point of discussion.
So Riley has a preference of prey...anything he can catch...geckos, shrews, moles, cockroaches (yes the BIG ones..so gross), leopard toads, dragonflies etc..you get the gist. Daisy has only brought me frogs, so far.
This post is about Riley, I suppose when one has 2 children; albeit mine are fur babies, it is difficult to talk about one without mentioning the other..but this is about Riley before his sister came along.
Riley likes to bring me presents; and apparently this is normal cat behaviour to present their moms and dads with their catch. My mom works at the Ornithology department at UCT and one of the students did a study on domestic cats and their hunting habits; I had to keep a diary and document what Riley caught etc. People say that domestic cats are cruel and they torture creatures for fun; this may be true but it is their instinct; they are hunters. Domestic cats are family of wild cats and they are equipped to feed themselves; that was the case with Daisy; and even though she is stunted and was poorly nourished as a kitten, she still survived.
Riley likes to bring these said gifts into my room; mostly at night when I am asleep and then he proceeds to play with them...I don't know why; I managed to rescue most of them. Geckos are easy; I just pick up the tail less animals and chuck them out of the cat flap, poor things are going to die anyway (they store their food in their tails..not sure why it is a defense mechanism to lose said pantry...) frogs and toads easy too. Shrews not so much, not only are they really fast; they actually let off a really bad smell..like a skunk sies.
The worst was; I was asleep and I heard Riley come in and come onto my bed; if I am awake, he comes for a head scratch before munching his pellets; he climbed under the duvet and then jumped off and started making love gutteral noises; me still half asleep feels something nudging my leg....my half asleep self then jumps up and turns on the light; screams blue murder when I see what was nudging me...a live mole....
Life with a cat is never boring; I must say I am glad Riley brought a gecko in last night; his first catch since Daisy arrived. It must mean he is going back to his old self...just no more moles thanks.

And the banting continues
So I have recently adopted the Tim Noakes diet revolution.
It was really difficult in the beginning to give up sugar and carbs and it was tough to not just cave in. I had the worst 2 day detox headache and once I made it through that; there was no turning back.
I have never felt better; I eat a lot of fat; because that style of eating is LCHF (Low carb high fat). I am feeling amazing, better skin, reduced allergies, no more tummy cramps and bloating. Being insulin resistant it has made a huge difference to my energy levels. I don't get headaches or heartburn anymore and now it has become less about the weight loss and more about the fact that I feel fantastic.
My personal trainer has been weighing me and measuring me. At our first weigh in; I had lost 4.5kgs in 5 weeks. That wasn't even the best part; I felt like I had lost weight on my chest but actually my centimetres had stayed the same. I had lost 1 or 2 cm off my body but the best part...8 CM of my butt! That was the best!
I am having a lymph drainage massage on Monday; my friend said I should measure myself just before and just after. Will keep you updated!

Cat Behaviour 101
The main reason I started blogging was because I have a lot of things running through my mind; so instead of lying awake at night; I have decided to write them down.
Having two cats means that you notice cat behaviour a lot more than when you only have one cat. I have been watching 'My cat from hell' and other programmes on cats. I found out a few things:
When cats do this:
They are completely secure and happy with their environment. Luckily Riley still sleeps like a complete ho now that Daisy is here. So he is a happy cat :)
Cats like boxes; I do not know why; but anytime there is a box I get this:
When cats do this they actually don't mind each other even if they do chase each other everyday:
